BAE Systems is the second largest defence organisation in the world. The company is a prime contractor and systems integrator to customers world-wide in the land, sea and air defence market sectors. Based in the UK, BAE Systems Marine has 60 sites nation-wide, 39 overseas sites and home markets in nine countries. The organisation has three main shipyards these are based in Yarrow, Govan and Barrow.
BAE Systems Marine chose the Artemis A&D Program Management solution for time, resource and cost control to ensure visibility during the construction of some of the largest MoD projects. The Artemis Cost module helps the organisation to provide accurate cost planning, control and earned value management reporting to avoid budget over-runs. The Artemis solution fulfills BAE’s key requirement for a common process for both detailed and summary reports, providing capabilities for multi user and multi project management reporting and analysis. Today BAE and Artemis share more that 20 years of close collaboration on largest program management.

MDBA implemented Artemis to address their crucial need for a global, closed-loop Earned Value Management System which includes detailed activity status and progress, creation and maintenance of estimates to complete, Earned Value tracking and analysis, time sheets for actuals tracking, and integration with other internal accounting and HR systems. Using Artemis, the project and program managers benefit from a single system helping them to manage activity assignments, ensure that time is tracked back to the appropriate programs for customer billing, and manage and analyze project status and performance. They offer their customers full featured integrated A&D program management, with a minimal staff and effort.

Alcatel implemented Artemis 20 years ago as the company program and project management solution for effective program planning and scheduling, resource and cost management. The powerful and flexible solution rapidly became Alcatel’s core management system dealing on the one hand with internal financial control - client invoicing, payment plans – and on the other hand with program portfolio management including, time tracking, capacity planning allied to a sophisticated resource reporting application. Today there are over 3000 users of Artemis at Alcatel and all new programs whatever their size are systematically input and monitored in Artemis.
Flexibility, adaptability to all organization changes and successive mergers have been key factors in maintaining Artemis’ dominant position and longevity at Alcatel Space.

Eurofighter

Eurofighter GmbH, based in Hallbergmoos, Germany, is the industry consortium set up to manage the development and production of the complete Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft and weapon system for delivery to the defense procurement consortium NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA). Eurofighter is owned by three partner companies (EPC’s) with agreed development workshares of Alenia Aeronautica (Italy), 21%, BAE Systems (UK) 33%, EADS (Spain and Germany) 46% ; and production workshares corresponding to the number of aircraft ordered by each country’s defense ministry.
Eurofighter, the EPC’s and NETMA selected Artemis as the program and project management system to support their planning and control process. Artemis helps to devise, track and control the collaborative program so that realistic and reliable forecast statements on progress can be made to EF management and customers. Artemis allows the Eurofighter and EPC project managers to produce their project schedule on a regular basis and therefore to create a master plan that collects and merges top-level plans in a multi-network with more than 20 000 activities and 25 000 constraints. This Master Control Network (MCN) represents the overall scheduling of the activities performed by the EPC’s for the EuroFighter program at consortium level including contractual delivery milestones.
